Do you just want to tell you friend how awesome they are? If this is the purpose of your gift, I have an awesome idea for you.
Make a Website as a Gift
I am not talking about a 10 page professional website. I mean mostly something like a blog or a simple one-two page website in which you tell the world how awesome your friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/cousin/etc. is.
You will need to register a domain. You can make a free website with Yola or Weebly if you want to spend an hour or so on the gift. Or, alternatively, you can find someone on Fiverr to do it for you for about $5-$10.
So what to put on the website? Well, why do you like this person so much? Tell the world how awesome they are. If they are volunteering somewhere, share that. If they have helped someone in need, write it down. You can tell cool stories from your childhood or explain how they are your fashion guru. It's up to you.
! Be careful not to share too personal information about the person online - address, phone number, etc are a no-no!
Then you should send it to your friend. I would share it online on the occasion and e-mail them to say 'Wow, look what I found - You are famous!'
