As usual, I will give you my daily unusual gift & home idea. To keep it short: you can't go wrong with a picture frame. I know, I know, it sounds simple, ....BUT what frame? what picture?
It all depends to who you are giving the gift - your childhood picture to your grandparents or parents, funny playing pictures from your childhood to friends, old is gold!
Choose a frame which can be hung and also can stay on a table or a cupboard. Choose a beautiful frame, don't be cheap :) There are so many options, and if you don't know where to look - Etsy! There you can find handmade, unique one of a kind pieces for practically EVERYONE.
Sometimes it's best to give an empty frame - for a graduation or wedding gift. So that the receiver can choose the best picture from the event for the frame. You can write a lovely poem or a note in the place of the picture, and make it into a picture frame greeting card!
